While driving from New Hampshire back home to upstate New York, I stopped for some quick hikes to waterfalls in Vermont. The first waterfall I visited was Glen Falls in Fairlee, about a 5 minute drive from the Interstate 91 exit. There is plenty of parking in the Lake Morey access lot or across the street in the town forest parking lot. The trail to the waterfall is just south of these parking lots.

The sound of rushing water got louder as I walked upstream for a couple of minutes. First there is a short, smaller waterfall.

Then I quickly reached the taller cascade. The slate rock is uplifted in a nearly vertical direction. This waterfall has cut through the rock and drops straight down.

I was able to scramble down the steep bank near the main waterfall to get a closer look.

After enjoying the main waterfall I ventured further upstream to see if there were more falls. The trail climbs steeply and is often narrow along the sharp drop off to the stream. I was thankful I wore my hiking shoes that have good traction. There were some smaller cascades upstream, but nothing as impressive as the main waterfall.

The hike to the main waterfall is quick and fairly easy. This is worth a stop if you are in the area! For more waterfalls in Vermont check out https://www.newenglandwaterfalls.com/
